Handy History® is a program that has been created to assist students to move past the awkwardness of the first days of school, and the discomfort of interacting with classmates they do not know.
Students think about and record important life experiences and personal stories that are shared with their classmates.
Participation in this program serves to break down invisible but powerful barriers. It gives students
- a sense of ownership in their class,
- partnership with their classmates and
- connection to their teacher.
Handy History® is key to engaging students positively, actively and immediately. Engaged students who feel a sense of ownership in their class are easier to manage and motivate, and less likely to engage in disruptive, off-task behavior.
Additional information about Handy History® is available in Your First 30 Minutes - The ABC's of Successful Classroom Management.
